Hi

I'm just starting out on a content inventory and I'm getting a bit confused with creating Link ID's.

Does a website content inventory only include webpages?

When there are links on a page that link directly to documents (not to other web pages) should I give these an ID or how to I record the presence of this type of content on our site?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Good on you Jen. They really are so useful. I started a new project this week and immediately started to knock together an inventory - even though the team had one part done, it is such a good way to get an understanding of what you have.

Hi Donna,
I'm about one quarter of the way through a massive content inventory (shoot me now) and I wanted to take the time to thank you for posting such useful info in your blog. (maybe I'm just procrastinating?)

A couple of things I've added to my spreadsheet are: Where content is updated in the CMS and of course the owner of that content as well as the Title Tag for each page (seo here I come!). Very helpful document, for sure.

Jen

Very useful info...

Small tip: If you're doing a lot of browser work it is well worth trying Opera - you can control the back and forward buttons using the z and x keys on the keyboard - much more convenient than using the mouse (or backspace).
