Lakoff is just saying that if you get someone to use your terminology for discussing an issue, then you can control much of what is discussed and how it is discussed. If you can get people to make the same assumptions as you, make the same distinctions, etc; again you can strongly influence discussions, etc. It's a way to manipulate and influence thought. Lakoff has little on Orwell's newspeak and doublethink from "1984". WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. I'd add a couple other slogans to Orwells to describe current politics: RELIGION IS SCIENCE, DEFEAT IS VICTORY, DECEPTION IS ENLIGHTENMENT. ;) It’s all about influence.
